But a fee ban doesn“t address the underlying issue. Most high street ATMs are run by private, third-party companies that are focused on the bottom line and profit margins rather than public access. The party“s election manifesto said the Big Six - including British Gas, SSE, E.On UK, EDF Energy, Scottish Power and Npower - would continue to supply gas and electricity to millions of homes while helping customers to reduce their energy use. The plan to nationalise the Big Six won the approval of Labour members at the party“s conference earlier this year, but many in the energy industry did not expect the pledge to be included in the manifesto.
